Two more days! And in anticipation Collider has given us a rundown of the cast and characters of Nine Perfect Strangers.
The limited series Nine Perfect Strangers follows, as the name implies, nine strangers from all walks of life with varying degrees of stress, who are promised a life-changing experience at a far away health spa called Tranquillum House run by the mysterious Masha, played by Nicole Kidman. Sure, their lives will change, but, perhaps not in the exact way they intended. “You want to get well? You want to heal? Surrender yourself to me,” an eerie Masha says to her guests in the trailer. She further promises that, “We are on the precipice of something great.”
An adaptation of the popular novel of the same name by author Liane Moriarty, Nine Perfect Strangers assembled a mega-talented cast, and has plenty of unique characters to explore.
Let’s break down who plays who in the latest novel adaptation of Moriarty’s work.
Melissa McCarthy as Frances
Actress Melissa McCarthy plays Frances, a romance novelist who seeks out the wellness center as a reprieve from her struggling career. Moriarty, when asked about the novel, said she feels “gratified” when people respond positively to Frances, as the character is the closest one to herself. McCarthy detailed her experiences filming the series in Australia on The Tonight Show last year, and gushed about how wonderful and down-to-earth the fellow actors were. McCarthy admitted that she was a bit intimidated meeting Nicole Kidman for the first time, but was quickly relieved at how real and normal the actress was. “She’s weird! She’s like a wonderful weirdo,” she told Jimmy Fallon, adding that Michael Shannon is, “One of the most fascinating people I’ve ever met.” McCarthy also serves as an executive producer on the series.
McCarthy is an Oscar-nominated actress for her performance in Can You Ever Forgive Me? and Bridesmaids. She can be seen in upcoming projects such as The Starling with Timothy Olyphant, Thor: Love and Thunder, The Little Mermaid, and the Netflix series, God’s Favorite Idiot, with husband Ben Falcone and actress Leslie Bibb.

People spoke with Melissa on her involvement in the 40×40 Initiative.
“The Suits reunion really made me laugh. That was not my idea. I wish I could claim that bit, but it was [Meghan’s],” shares Melissa McCarthy
Melissa McCarthy is spilling the royal tea on what it’s like to work with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.
The actress appeared on Access Hollywood Monday to chat about Nine Perfect Strangers, her new Hulu show with Regina Hall. During the chat, McCarthy opened up about her recent appearance in Meghan’s 40th birthday video, where the Duchess of Sussex announced her 40×40 initiative.
“[Meghan] said, ‘Let’s do it in a fun way and see if we can drum up more people helping more women kind of get back into the workforce,'” shared McCarthy, 50. “I was like, ‘Yes! What a great idea.’ I was so pleased to be a part of it.”
The video included a cameo from Prince Harry, 36, who showed off his juggling skills — an idea Harry came up with himself.
“He’s like, ‘Is it going to be weird if I stand outside and juggle?’ I was like, ‘Weird in the way that will make me watch it five million times,” the comedian said.
“They were so sweet and funny. I just find them very inspiring,” McCarthy added. “They’re carving out their own lives. They’re carving out their lives for their kids.”
During the video, McCarthy jokingly suggested that Meghan should celebrate her milestone birthday with a Suits reunion.
“The Suits reunion really made me laugh,” McCarthy said. “That was not my idea. I wish I could claim that bit, but it was hers.”
Meghan opened up more about her initiative on the couple’s Archewell Foundation website.
“In reflecting on my 40th birthday and the many things I am grateful for, I’m struck that TIME IS AMONG OUR GREATEST AND MOST ESSENTIAL GIFTS: Time with our loved ones, time doing the things we love, time spent learning, laughing, growing, and the sacred time we have on this earth,” the mom of two wrote. “Amongst the most valuable gifts of time is also time spent in service to others knowing that it can contribute to incredible change. To that last point, and with my 40th lap around the sun in mind, it made me wonder: what would happen if we all committed 40 minutes to helping someone else or to mentoring someone in need? And then what would happen if we asked our friends to do the same?”
Noting that women are returning to the workforce after leaving in large part due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Meghan noted that “mentorship is one way to help women regain confidence and rebuild their economic strength.”
“For my birthday, I have asked 40 friends, activists, athletes, artists, and world leaders to help kickoff a global effort by contributing 40 MINUTES OF MENTORSHIP to support women re-entering the workforce. With this time, I hope they each help someone advance a professional life on her own terms, and, I hope that they inspire countless others to give 40 minutes of their time as well.”
A snapshot of participants who have committed to giving 40 minutes of their time to mentor a woman in their community include Adele, Amanda Gorman, Amanda Nguyen, Deepak Chopra, Dr. Ibram X. Kendi, Gloria Steinem, José Andrés, Dr. Nadine Burke Harris, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau and Stella McCartney.

TIME IS A GIFT
A special message from Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, on her 40th birthday.
WHAT IF WE EACH GAVE 40 MINUTES OF SERVICE?
In reflecting on my 40th birthday and the many things I am grateful for, I’m struck that TIME IS AMONG OUR GREATEST AND MOST ESSENTIAL GIFTS: Time with our loved ones, time doing the things we love, time spent learning, laughing, growing, and the sacred time we have on this earth. Amongst the most valuable gifts of time is also time spent in service to others knowing that it can contribute to incredible change. To that last point, and with my 40th lap around the sun in mind, it made me wonder: what would happen if we all committed 40 minutes to helping someone else or to mentoring someone in need? And then what would happen if we asked our friends to do the same?
In the past two years, and in large part because of the COVID-19 pandemic, TENS OF MILLIONS OF women around the world have left the workforce, including over two million women in the U.S. So many of these women are also SHOULDERING THE BRUNT OF THE CRISIS when it comes to unpaid labor, including schooling and caring for family members. And the latest research shows that FEWER WOMEN THAN MEN WILL REGAIN WORK as we recover from the pandemic.
I believe mentorship is one way to help women regain confidence and rebuild their economic strength, and for my birthday, I have asked 40 friends, activists, athletes, artists, and world leaders to help kickoff a global effort by contributing 40 MINUTES OF MENTORSHIP to support women re-entering the workforce. With this time, I hope they each help someone advance a professional life on her own terms, and, I hope that they inspire countless others to give 40 minutes of their time as well.
If you are able, please JOIN US and pledge 40 minutes today in service of others in the way that feels right to you. The time that you donate can contribute to a GLOBAL WAVE OF SERVICE and set in motion meaningful impact in our own communities, and across the world.
